Trail Description

Squamish Estuary is a short, super mellow walk right on the edge of downtown Squamish, British Columbia, and it’s about as easy as trails get. At 3.1 km out and back with only 9 m of elevation gain, it’s more of a scenic stroll than a hike, which makes it great for families, casual walkers, or anyone looking to stretch their legs with a quick nature break.

The route follows flat dike and estuary paths with wide open views of the Squamish River, coastal wetlands, and the surrounding mountains when the weather cooperates. You’ll see plenty of birds, tidal channels, and the changing light over the water as you go, and because the Squamish Estuary trail is so short and level, you can take your time to stop and look around without worrying about a big climb.

Recent visitors mention that a lot of construction is happening nearby, and parts of the Squamish Estuary area now border what looks like a new development, so don’t expect a fully wild feel the whole way. The trail surface is flat and easy walking, kid friendly, and usually takes around 30–40 minutes at a relaxed pace. It’s open year-round, but it can be wet and muddy after rain and at high tides, so waterproof shoes help, and if you’re bringing a dog, keep them leashed and watch for heavy equipment or trucks near the construction zones.
