Trail Description

Smoke Bluffs Loop Trail in Squamish is a short, punchy hike that packs in more than you’d expect from 2.7 km. This moderate loop climbs about 193 m to around 208 m, weaving through classic Squamish granite and forest with steady ups and downs that keep it interesting without being a grind. It’s popular with both new hikers and locals looking for a quick workout, and you’ll usually share the area with plenty of rock climbers heading to the crags.

On the trail, you move between dirt paths, rocky sections, and a lot of stairs, with side trails peeling off toward climbing walls and extra viewpoints. Views pop through the trees toward Howe Sound, the Stawamus Chief, and the Sea to Sky Highway, plus some close-up looks at big granite faces and even a few small waterfalls after rain. The loop is mostly in the woods, so it feels quiet and sheltered, but the climbers on the walls below add some fun people-watching as you go.

Current reports say the Smoke Bluffs Loop Trail is well marked and well maintained, but there are many offshoots, so downloading a map on AllTrails is smart. Expect steep steps in spots, loose rock here and there, and one log-step section on the east side that’s tricky if you’re unsteady or have a small dog. This is a hiking trail, not a mountain bike route, and it can be snowy or icy in winter, muddy after storms, and busy on weekends; go early, be bear aware in summer, and don’t count on the bathrooms being clean.
