Trail Description

Shannon Falls Lookout in Squamish is the classic “stretch your legs” stop on the Sea to Sky Highway, and it earns the hype. This 1.1 km loop is short, easy, and mostly gentle, climbing just 46 m in about 20 minutes, but the payoff is a massive wall of water roaring down right in front of you. It’s busy almost all year, yet still feels worth pulling off the highway for a quick hit of nature.

The walking is straightforward: a mix of paved and well-groomed gravel paths through cool, shady forest, with the sound of Shannon Falls getting louder as you go. There’s an accessible paved route to the lower viewing deck where you can see the full falls from the base, and a set of stairs that leads to an upper platform with a closer, more dramatic angle. Kids, grandparents, and casual walkers handle it fine, though the stairs can feel a bit steep if you’re not used to them.

Current conditions are typically excellent, with wide, well-maintained paths and clear signage. Expect crowds, full parking lots, and tour buses in summer and on weekends; if the main lot is packed, there’s overflow parking across the road. Go early or later in the day for a quieter visit, bring a light layer for the cool mist at the viewpoints, and keep dogs leashed. The trail is open year-round, but in winter it can be wet or icy in spots, so good footwear helps. Flush toilets, picnic tables, and a small shop make Shannon Falls Lookout one of the easiest and most convenient stops around Squamish.
