Trail Description
Reflection Lake and Tricouni Peak is one of those Squamish missions that feels big right from the planning stage. At 28.2 km with 2130 m of gain and a high point around 2057 m, this out-and-back is an all-day sufferfest for strong hikers and scramblers, not a casual wander. Expect about 12 and a half hours on your feet if you’re moving well and not stopping for long breaks.
The approach up the rough forest service road already sets the tone, then the trail climbs steadily through forest, mud, and roots before breaking into more open alpine terrain. Reflection Lake lives up to its name on a calm day, with Tricouni Peak looming above and a chain of smaller lakes and tarns along the way that make great water and camp spots. Higher up, the route crosses boulder fields and then turns into a true scramble to reach the summit of Tricouni, with hands-on moves and some route-finding, especially if snow is hanging around.
Recent reports for Reflection Lake and Tricouni Peak say the lower section is muddy and the summit push is a legit scramble, so expect to get dirty and use your hands. You really do need a high-clearance 4x4 to reach the upper parking area near Squamish, as the road is rough and long; add extra distance and time if you park lower. Late spring through early fall is the main season, but snow can linger high up, so check conditions, start early, bring a helmet and layers, and be ready to turn around if the scramble feels outside your comfort zone.
