Trail Description

Mount Chek in Squamish is a short loop with a bit of attitude. At just 2.6 km with about 178 m of gain, it sounds tame on paper, but the fixed ropes, rocky sections, and climber-style approach give it a solid moderate feel that can easily stretch into a 2+ hour outing.

The Mount Chek loop climbs through classic Squamish forest, weaving between rock walls and viewpoints used by climbers heading to the Chek climbing area. The route toward Chek Peak and the Frontside 180 area has a rugged, scrambly vibe, with hands-on sections that make it feel more like an approach trail than a groomed hike, and the partial views over the valley and highway keep things interesting as you move along the ridge.

Recent hikers say the Mount Chek trail is not super well marked, so expect to pay attention at junctions and watch for flagging and worn-in footbeds rather than polished signage. The fixed ropes are a big part of the fun but can be slick in the wet, so this loop is best in dry conditions and sturdy footwear is a must. Plan for slow going despite the short distance, bring a map or offline app, and aim for late spring through fall when snow is gone and the rock is dry for both hiking and checking out the Chek climbing routes.
