Trail Description

Mamquam Falls in Squamish is a quick-hit waterfall hike with a whole lot of drama around it lately. The stats say 2.1 km, 70 m gain, and about 37 minutes, but that “easy” rating really depends on your fitness and comfort with roots, rocks, and short steep bits. It’s a popular spot, shared between a paid canyon boardwalk attraction and the original free public trail, so expect crowds and some confusion in the parking lot.

The free Mamquam Falls trail heads through classic Squamish forest, with mossy trunks, damp earth, and a mix of gravel road and rooty singletrack. You’ll hear the falls before you see them, then reach a viewpoint with a partial but still solid look into the canyon and the churning water below. The paid boardwalk offers more angles and infrastructure, but if you just want a short walk and a natural feel, the public trail does the job.

Current reports say the Mamquam Falls public trail is often muddy in September and October, with slick roots and rocks after rain, so wear real hiking shoes and bring a rain jacket. From the shared parking area, keep left and follow the free trail; staff may ask about tickets, but you do not need them for the public route. The grade and rough footing can feel more like moderate to hard for some seniors or anyone with mobility issues, so don’t treat it like a flat city stroll. Views are more impressive in high flow, but the water can look milky or murky at times, and the upper viewpoints once used before the new development are now closed off.
