Trail Description
Habrich Spur Trail in Squamish is one of those routes that feels like a real mountain day without completely wrecking you. It’s an out-and-back, about 10.6 km with 533 m of gain to roughly 1347 m, usually clocking in around 3 hours and 45 minutes for most hikers. Rated moderate, it’s a solid step up from the easy Squamish classics, but still very doable if you’re reasonably fit and don’t mind a bit of rock and root.
The trail climbs steadily from forest into more open terrain, mixing shaded sections with rocky stretches and the odd overgrown patch. Around the 5 km mark you’ll hit a small waterfall that makes a natural lunch spot and turnaround point if you’re not going for the full push. If you keep going, the upper outcrops above the Habrich Spur Trail give you stronger views toward Sky Pilot and the surrounding peaks, especially once the clouds lift and the afternoon light hits the ridges.
Recent hikers report mixed conditions depending on time of day and season: cloudy and socked in mornings that burn off into sunny afternoons, plus a bit of lingering snow in the saddle near Mount Habrich, mostly avoidable and only in the last 100 m or so. The trail is shared with snowshoers, backcountry skiers, and climbers heading toward Sky Pilot in winter and spring, and it can feel rocky and brushy up high, so good footwear is smart even if some runners do it in trail shoes. Aim for July through September for mostly dry ground, bring enough water and snacks, and expect a fun, slightly steep workout with just enough exposure to remind you you’re in Squamish’s real alpine backyard.
