Trail Description
Furry Creek Knob Deck Trail sits just south of Squamish, above Furry Creek and Howe Sound, and feels a lot quieter than the big-name hikes nearby. This 6.9 km out-and-back has about 319 m of gain and usually takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes, so it’s a solid moderate outing without being a sufferfest. You’re mainly here for the Howe Sound and Anvil Island views from the wooden deck at around 372 m, and the fact that you’ll probably have them almost to yourself.
The hike starts on a gravel forest service road, climbing steadily with partial shade and long, open stretches in the sun. As you get higher, the road narrows into more of a mountain trail, with side paths dipping into the forest that feel cooler, softer underfoot, and more fun than grinding up the road the whole way. The final push to the lookout gets a bit rocky and scrappy, but the deck at the top gives a wide view over Howe Sound, Anvil Island, and the Furry Creek area that feels surprisingly big for such a low-elevation hike.
Recent hikers report no trail markers, faint junctions, and some bushwhacking through overgrown sections, so download a map and check it often. Parking is limited to a small pullout on the forest service road near the top of the Furry Creek hill, and it fills fast, so don’t block the road. Expect very few people, spotty cell service, berry bushes that attract bears, and the odd snake or deer track; bring bear spray, watch for ticks in the warmer months, and aim for spring or cooler summer days when the sun on the road isn’t so harsh.
