Trail Description

Deeks Lake – Hanover Lake – Brunswick Lake is one of the classic big grunt hikes north of Squamish, starting from the Porteau Cove side of the Sea to Sky. It’s listed around 19 km with about 1,300 m of gain, but most hikers’ watches are closer to 22–24 km by the time they’re back at the car. Expect a full day out, or a solid overnight backpack, on a steep, rough, and very rewarding out-and-back route.

The trail climbs hard through forest to Deeks Lake, with roots, rocks, mud, and a few scrambly bits that keep you honest. From Deeks to Hanover and Brunswick Lake the grade eases a bit and the scenery really opens up, with waterfalls, views toward Brunswick Mountain, and a chain of cold, clear alpine lakes that are made for a quick dip if you can handle the temperature. Most of the route is shaded, which helps on hot days, but it also means things can stay wet and slick.

Recent hikers report the distance feeling longer than posted, so plan for 7–9 hours moving time and bring more water than you think you need, especially from the trailhead to Deeks where there are no good fill spots. Bridges and crossings toward Brunswick Lake have been washed out in the past and can still be ankle- to knee-deep, so expect wet feet and bring poles. Bugs can be intense around Deeks and Brunswick in early summer, snow patches can linger near Brunswick Lake, the parking lot is tiny, and campsites are unserviced, so arrive early, pack a filter and bug spray, and be ready for true backcountry conditions.
