Trail Description
DeBeck’s Hill in Squamish is a short, steady grind that feels more like a power hike than a wander in the woods. At 4.3 km out and back with about 277 m of gain, it packs a decent workout into roughly an hour and forty-five minutes, without eating your whole day. It’s not the most dramatic trail in the Squamish area, but if you’re camping around Alice Lake or just want a quick leg-burner close to town, it does the job.
The route follows an old forest service road/logging road almost the whole way, so don’t expect technical singletrack. It’s pretty much uphill from the start, with a couple of little climbing areas and some gravelly, sloggy stretches, but you’re in the trees and in the shade for most of it, which keeps it cool. At the top you get solid views over the Squamish Valley and across to the Tantalus Range; power lines cut through the scene and you don’t actually see Alice Lake from up there, but the mountains still look good, especially with early morning light.
Recent hikers call DeBeck’s Hill “short but intense” and “a great quick one,” so go in expecting a straightforward grind rather than a scenic wander. The shaded route makes it a decent choice on warmer days from spring through fall, and it’s usually hikeable from April to October, though it can see snow or ice outside that window. Shoes with decent grip help on the loose gravel, and an early start is worth it for cooler temps and better views to the west; if you want to stretch things out afterward, you can always add an easy, flat loop around nearby Alice Lake.
