Trail Description

Brackendale Dykes Trail in Squamish, BC is one of those easy walks you end up coming back to again and again. It’s a flat 4.2 km out-and-back along the top of the dyke, with only about 11 m of elevation gain, so it feels more like a relaxed riverside stroll than a hike. Locals use it for quick walks, dog outings, and stretching the legs between bigger Squamish adventures.

The trail itself is wide and smooth, mostly gravel and crushed asphalt, so it’s friendly for all ages and abilities. You follow the dyke with open views toward the Squamish River and the surrounding mountains, and on clear days the scenery is surprisingly good for how little effort it takes. This stretch of Brackendale is famous for bald eagles in season, so keep an eye on the trees and sky as you go.

Right now, people are calling it a lovely gravel dyke trail with gorgeous views, and that sums it up well: simple, clean, and easy underfoot. It usually takes around 45–50 minutes at a casual pace, but you can linger at viewpoints or turn it into a longer dog walk. The Brackendale Dykes Trail is best from about April through November when the route is clear and the river is at its most interesting; in winter it can be damp and chilly, so dress for wind and mud and watch for any signs about private property or seasonal closures.
