Trail Description
Bagpipe Peak Trail is a tough grind with a big payoff, tucked above the Squamish Valley rather than right in town. This 13.7 km out-and-back route climbs about 1166 m to around 1655 m, so you feel every step, but you also get that real Coast Mountains backcountry vibe and plenty of quiet.
The trail starts in the forest with steady, sometimes steep climbing and a few rooty, rough stretches that keep it interesting. As you gain elevation, views start to open up to the Squamish River, surrounding peaks, and endless ridgelines, with a true alpine feel near the top when the weather cooperates. It’s a long day out, usually around six and a half hours, and you won’t see many people once you’re past the lower sections.
Bagpipe Peak Trail is rated difficult for a reason, so bring solid footwear, layers, and enough food and water for a full day. Snow can linger at higher elevations well into late spring, and in winter this area is more of a cross-country ski or snowshoe objective, with avalanche considerations once you’re near treeline. Check recent trip reports, start early, and treat this as a serious mountain hike rather than a casual Squamish stroll.
