Trail Description

Whytecliff Trail in West Vancouver is more of a scenic wander than a “real” hike, and that’s exactly the charm. This 0.8 km loop in Whytecliff Park takes only about 10–15 minutes, but it packs in ocean views, rocky shoreline, and loads of spots to stop and just hang out. It’s rated very easy, with only about 18 m of gain, so it’s accessible for most people looking for a quick walk with big payoff.

Walking the Whytecliff Trail feels like exploring a compact coastal playground. You weave past lawns and picnic areas, then onto rocky outcrops with views across Howe Sound to Bowen Island and the North Shore mountains. There are little side paths, nooks, and short scrambles where you can climb onto the rocks, watch the boats, and, if you’re lucky, spot sea lions playing in the water near Whyte Islet.

Current conditions are generally dry and straightforward, though some sections involve steps and uneven rock, so casual shoes with some grip are a good idea. Whytecliff Park is one of the busiest spots in West Vancouver, especially on sunny weekends, and parking is paid and not cheap, so arrive early or be ready to circle for a spot. The loop works year-round, but tide times matter if you want to walk out to Whyte Islet and back safely without getting stranded when the water rises.
