Trail Description
Ambleside Park and Centennial Seawalk in West Vancouver is the classic “easy win” walk: flat, scenic, and longer than a quick stroll at 7.4 km out and back. With only about 39 m of total gain and a max elevation around 13 m, it’s more of a relaxed shoreline wander than a hike, and most people finish it in about an hour and a half. Locals hit this route year-round for a no-stress walk with big views and lots of people-watching.
The path from Ambleside Park onto the Centennial Seawalk is broad, mostly paved, and hugs the water the whole way. You get constant views of the ocean, Stanley Park, and the Lions Gate Bridge, plus the usual mix of freighters and seaplanes out in Burrard Inlet. It’s a social route with families, runners, strollers, and a very mixed crowd, so expect more of a lively seaside promenade than a quiet forest trail.
Right now, reviews say the Ambleside Park and Centennial Seawalk combo is clear of snow and slush in winter, making it a solid cold-weather option, though part of the seawall can be closed at times due to storm damage. The route is very easy underfoot but can feel crowded, so be patient when passing and treat it as a slow walk with lots of photo stops. Parking is usually fine in shoulder seasons like April but gets tougher on sunny summer weekends, and dogs are allowed on-leash along the route, with off-leash areas in Ambleside itself, though not everyone finds the whole walk ideal for dogs, so plan around closures and busy times if you’re bringing a pup.
