Trail Description
Lawson Creek Forestry Heritage Walk in West Vancouver is short on distance but big on effort. This 4.3 km loop climbs about 327 m to around 664 m, and most of that gain hits you in the first half, so expect a legit workout rather than a casual stroll. It usually takes just under two hours, but plan extra time if you like to poke around the heritage sites and the massive old-growth tree.
The Lawson Creek Forestry Heritage Walk winds through classic North Shore forest: dense, green, and a bit wild around the edges. You’ll follow rough singletrack with roots, rocks, old logging relics, and an easy cruise down along the old railway grade on the way out. The 1,100‑year‑old tree is the star of the loop and feels worth the climb on its own, and you’ll also pass old dam and flume remnants that give the trail a cool logging-history feel.
Recent hikers report confusing junctions, faint side trails, and poor reception, so download an offline map before you leave the car and watch for easy-to-miss turns. The route can be very muddy with deep sections, lingering snow slush up high in spring, fallen trees across the path, and higher creek crossings; waterproof shoes and a willingness to scramble over or around obstacles help a lot. The bridge by the waterfall is currently closed and there’s a posted weight limit on another crossing, so expect minor reroutes, but the loop stays quiet, shady, and best from late spring through early fall when things have had a chance to dry out.
