Trail Description
BLT MTB Loop in West Vancouver is a short but punchy 5.3 km loop built with mountain bikers in mind, not hikers. Climbing about 326 m up to roughly 620 m, it packs a decent workout into an average 1.5-hour outing, with a mix of steady climbing and a fast, technical descent. This is a moderate route on paper, but the style of trail and features push it toward advanced for riders who aren’t used to North Shore-style terrain.
The BLT MTB Loop winds through classic West Vancouver forest, with dense trees, roots, rocks, and limited open viewpoints. You’re in the trees almost the whole time, so this one is more about flow, corners, and technical features than big vistas. The loop connects into more challenging mountain bike trails on Cypress, so expect to share the route with riders moving at speed and treat it as a ride-first, hike-second kind of place.
Right now, local feedback is clear: BLT MTB Loop is primarily an access and training loop for mountain bikes and is not recommended as a hiking destination. In winter and on cloudy days it gets dark fast in the woods, and some sections see almost no traffic, so carry a light and be prepared for slick roots, mud, and isolation. Aim for April through November for better traction and visibility, and if you’re on foot in West Vancouver, consider more established hiking routes and leave BLT MTB Loop to the riders who know and expect its technical character.
