Trail Description

Ambleside Park Loop in West Vancouver is the go-to coastal walk when the rest of the North Shore is a soggy mess. This 3.4 km loop is almost completely flat, mostly paved, and usually stays usable even after days of heavy rain. It’s an easy 40-minute wander with ocean air, city views, and lots of space to just move your legs without thinking about roots, rocks, or steep climbs.

The loop circles through Ambleside Park and along the waterfront, with views across Burrard Inlet to downtown Vancouver, Lions Gate Bridge, and Stanley Park. You’ll pass sandy beach, Vincent Creek Pond, open lawns, and a steady mix of walkers, runners, strollers, and leashed dogs. On stormy days, the waves can get surprisingly big here, and locals line the shore to watch surfers catch sets right off the beach.

Right now, this is a solid choice if recent rain has turned other West Vancouver trails into mud pits. The Ambleside Park Loop drains well, the pavement keeps your feet out of standing water, and parking is usually easy outside of peak summer afternoons. It’s exposed and mostly unshaded, so bring a rain shell in fall and winter and sun protection in July and August. Open year-round and rarely icy at this low 12 m max elevation, it’s more of a scenic walk than a hike, but a reliable one when you just want to get outside by the ocean.
