Trail Description

The Crossover – Brothers Creek – Lost Lake – Baden-Powell loop in West Vancouver gives you a solid taste of North Shore forest without being an all-day sufferfest. At 7.9 km with about 448 m of gain and a high point around 828 m, it’s a moderate hike that most reasonably fit hikers can finish in about three hours. Access is from Millstream Road, where you park along the street and walk straight into the trees.

The route usually links the Baden-Powell Trail with Brothers Creek and Lost Lake, so you get a mix of smooth forest singletrack, old logging relics, creek crossings, and the odd city and ocean peek-through on clear days. The forest here is classic West Vancouver: tall evergreens, mossy ground, and a cool, shaded feel even on warm afternoons. It’s a loop, so you’re always moving forward, and the grades are steady rather than brutal, making it a good choice for a relaxed but engaging outing.

Right now, the Crossover – Brothers Creek – Lost Lake – Baden-Powell route has major closures where it crosses Brothers Creek: the Baden-Powell bridge is completely gone and the Crossover Trail crossing is also closed, with clear signage from the city. Unless you know the area very well, don’t plan on forcing the original loop; instead, use the alternate Brothers Creek – Lost Lake – Baden Powell Trail route on AllTrails, which covers most of the same terrain while avoiding the washed-out bridges. Expect seasonal mud, snow, or ice from late fall through spring at higher elevations, and aim for June to November for the easiest conditions, keeping dogs leashed and building in extra time if you like long breaks at Lost Lake.
