Trail Description

The Steveston Walking Tour in Richmond, BC is more of a slow wander than a hike, and that’s exactly its charm. This 6 km out-and-back route along the waterfront and dike is flat, easy, and usually takes just over an hour, with lots of reasons to stop and explore along the way. You’re here for history, river views, and village vibes more than elevation gain.

Starting near Steveston Village and Garry Point Park, you follow a mix of gravel, paved path, and boardwalk with the Fraser River on one side and Richmond’s dike system on the other. The route passes historic cannery buildings, fishing docks, and open marshes, and on clear days you can see across to Vancouver Island and the North Shore mountains. It’s a relaxed walk where you can watch boats, planes heading to YVR, and life in a working fishing community all at once.

Recent walkers say the Steveston Walking Tour is quiet in the morning, with just a few joggers and dog walkers, and the trail surface is in good shape. It’s very easy and almost completely flat, so it suits families, casual walkers, and anyone easing into longer distances. The trail is open year-round, but it can be windy and exposed, so bring a light layer, and expect it to be busier on sunny weekends when Steveston’s restaurants, cafes, and docks are buzzing.
