Trail Description
Railway Trail in Richmond, British Columbia is a flat, super-relaxed path that’s more about easy movement than wilderness adventure. At 4.7 km point-to-point with only about 5 m of elevation gain, it’s basically a straight, level cruise that most people finish in around 50 minutes. It’s a solid choice if you want a quick walk, jog, or bike ride without leaving the city.
The trail follows the old rail corridor, so it feels like a long, straight urban greenway with open sky, neighborhood views, and steady, uninterrupted travel. You’ll see a mix of walkers, runners, and cyclists using it as both a fitness route and a quiet way to get from A to B. With its smooth grade and low effort, Railway Trail is friendly for families, casual strolls, and anyone easing into regular movement.
Current reports mention a separate lane from cars for most of the route, which keeps things comfortable, but you do need to stay sharp at road crossings. Some drivers turning across the path don’t always shoulder-check for people or cyclists, so slow down and make eye contact before you cross. The trail is usable year-round thanks to its low elevation, though it feels nicest from spring through early fall when Richmond’s weather is mild and the pavement is dry.
