Trail Description
Westhill Park in Port Moody is a short loop with a surprisingly wild feel, right above the neighborhood. At just 2.4 km with about 78 m of gain, it’s an easy hike on paper, but the rough, unmarked nature of the trail makes it feel more like a little adventure than a city park walk.
The loop winds through classic Port Moody forest, with mossy logs, shady sections, and a few quirky touches like gnomes and rough plank bridges that look like they grew there. You’ll get some decent little climbs and descents that wake up the legs, plus seasonal huckleberries and salmonberries along the way, which keep kids and adults entertained.
Recent hikers report that Westhill Park is quiet, overgrown in spots, and poorly marked, so bring a map app and expect to double-check your route at junctions. Fallen trees, debris, and steep, leaf-covered slopes can be slick, especially after rain, and the log stairs and makeshift deadwood bridges are known to be slippery and a bit sketchy for nervous walkers. It’s an off-leash dog area and families with kids do manage it, but plan sturdy footwear, go slow on the bridges, and save it for drier days if you’re not comfortable on rough, muddy ground.
