Trail Description

Alfred Howe Greenway in Port Moody is a quick hit of forest and elevation without committing your whole day. This 2.1 km out-and-back trail climbs about 92 m, topping out around 124 m, so you get the feel of a real hike in under an hour. It’s rated easy, but expect a steady uphill that will get your legs working on the way out and give you a relaxed cruise back down.

The Alfred Howe Greenway starts from Westhill Park by the Westhill Youth Centre and follows a mostly gravel path with a mix of gentle grades and stair sections. It links up with the Trans Canada Trail near Reed Point Marina, so you can turn this short outing into a longer waterfront walk if you’re not ready to call it a day. Forest cover keeps things shaded and quiet, with the occasional gap offering peeks toward Port Moody and the inlet area.

As of mid-May 2025, locals report the Alfred Howe Greenway is open and in good shape, despite what Google might say, with stairs and trail surface well maintained. Wildlife is active here: recent hikers have seen deer, woodpeckers, and even a bear, so keep dogs leashed and stay alert, especially in the early morning and evening. This is a solid year-round option in Port Moody, but it can be damp and slick after rain, so bring decent footwear and consider this a great shoulder-season or after-work leg-stretcher when you want a short, low-commitment hike close to town.
