Trail Description

Upper Backyard - Blue Line - IMBY on Eagle Mountain sits just above Port Moody and feels like a quick escape into real forest without committing to an all-day grind. At 3.9 km out-and-back with about 185 m of gain and a high point around 430 m, it’s an easy route on paper and usually takes just over an hour, but still gives you that “I actually went for a hike” feeling.

The trail weaves through classic Port Moody forest with a mix of roots, rock, and short punchy climbs, linking into well-known mountain bike zones like The Dentist and Bad Blood. On clear days you get filtered views through the trees and a good sense of Eagle Mountain’s network; on foggy or rainy days it turns moody and quiet, with creeks running hard and the forest feeling extra alive.

Recent reports say Upper Backyard - Blue Line - IMBY is in good shape, with the main tread surprisingly not very wet even after rain, though side creeks are running high and anything beyond the core route can turn into a soaker in trail runners. The Dentist section is still awkward to get around due to bike closures, so expect a bit of route-finding if you wander. This Port Moody hike is doable year-round, but in the wet season bring waterproof footwear, be ready for slick roots and puddles, and treat any “short detour” toward things like Cypress Lake or Lungbuster as a potential boot-filler.
