Trail Description

Quarry Road in Port Coquitlam is a straightforward out-and-back gravel road that feels more like a quiet country lane than a technical trail. At 9.3 km with only about 245 m of gain and a max altitude around 105 m, it’s an easy route that usually takes about 2.5 hours at a relaxed pace. It’s popular with local walkers, runners, and cyclists who want a no-nonsense outing just beyond Minnekhada Regional Park.

The route follows a wide dirt and gravel road through thick, green forest with a few rural properties near the far end. Expect a rocky, bumpy surface in spots, so bikes need decent tires and walkers should wear shoes with solid soles. Views are mostly forest and roadside scenery, with the odd relic like the old tractor and occasional glimpses of surrounding hills breaking through the trees.

Recent reports mention the road being “rocky as frick” and very much a dirt-road grind rather than a smooth path, so strollers and thinner bike tires will get rattled. This stretch of Quarry Road has active bear activity, including multiple adults and a cub seen within a short time, with at least one bear following hikers, so carry bear spray, make noise, and avoid solo travel, especially at dawn or dusk. The trail is open year-round and generally accessible in all seasons, but expect mud and puddles after rain and be ready to turn around if wildlife is too active for comfort.
