Trail Description

Sheep Paddocks Loop Trail in Port Coquitlam is a super mellow 6 km loop that feels more like a long walk in a big open park than a hike. With only about 21 m of elevation gain and a max altitude of around 7 m, it’s flat, friendly, and easy on the knees, usually taking just over an hour at a casual pace. If you’re looking for a low-stress route to stretch your legs, run, or push a stroller, this is one of the easiest loops in the Colony Farm area.

The loop winds through wide, gravel paths with open views over fields, wetlands, and the mountains in the distance, with lots of space for birds and other wildlife. Some people find the trail a bit “boring” because it’s straight, flat, and repetitive, but if you like big skies, birdwatching, and an easy rhythm for walking or running, Sheep Paddocks Loop Trail delivers. Expect some sections near the road, but overall it still feels like an urban escape inside Port Coquitlam.

Recent hikers say the trail is in good shape with fully gravel surfaces, but there’s almost no shade, so this loop is best in cool, dry weather and you’ll want a hat, sunscreen, and water on sunny days. It can feel long for younger kids, and there are only a few benches, so plan breaks accordingly. Coyotes are occasionally spotted in the area, so keep dogs leashed and kids close, and enjoy this easy, year-round loop as a relaxed walk rather than a big adventure.
