Trail Description
The PoCo Traboulay Trail Loop in Port Coquitlam is the classic “see-it-all” route around town. At 25.3 km with only 83 m of gain, it’s long but mostly flat, so the challenge is in the distance, not the climbing. Expect about 4.5 to 5 hours on foot, less if you’re running or on a bike, and a steady mix of locals out walking dogs, training, or cruising on gravel and road bikes.
Following the perimeter of Port Coquitlam, the Traboulay Trail loops along the Coquitlam and Pitt Rivers, across dikes, through pockets of forest, and in and out of quiet neighbourhoods. One minute you’re on shaded riverside single path, the next you’re rolling along open shale and gravel with big Fraser River views and even a sunken houseboat to spot. The route is well maintained, mostly hard-packed gravel with some paved sections, and while parts on the Coquitlam River side can feel narrow and a bit confusing, the Pitt Meadows side is wide open and relaxed.
Recent users say the PoCo Traboulay Trail Loop is in good shape, with lots of parking and an easy surface for walking, running, and especially cycling. Expect heavy bike and foot traffic near downtown Port Coquitlam and Gates Park, and be ready to slow down and share the path; trail etiquette can be hit or miss on busy weekends. Some sections are exposed and can feel hot, so bring water on sunny days, watch for bears along the Coquitlam River side, and be aware of occasional detours. The loop is doable year-round, and locals come back at least once a season, often breaking it into shorter sections or stopping for pizza or Mexican food halfway around.
