Trail Description

Raven’s Bluff in Mission, BC is one of those short hikes that still manages to punch you in the legs. At just 4.2 km out-and-back with about 368 m of gain, it feels more like a stair workout than a stroll, but the series of bluff viewpoints keep you chasing “just one more.” Most hikers wrap it up in around 2 hours, but the steep grade makes it feel solidly in the challenging category.

The trail climbs quickly through forest on a narrow, rocky path, with roots, loose rock, and a few hands-on scrambly sections. You pass multiple bluff lookouts as you go; the early ones are partly blocked by trees, but things really open up around the third, and the fifth bluff is the clear winner for wide views and sunshine when the weather cooperates. On clear days you get big valley views and a real sense of height, while on foggy days it turns into a moody, quiet grind with not many other people around.

Right now, recent hikers are calling Raven’s Bluff “short but steep,” “quite the grind,” and “very much a scramble” in spots, with the descent feeling slippery if it’s damp. Good trail shoes with real grip are a must, and trekking poles help a lot on the way down. The trail itself has been in decent shape lately with little mud, but expect loose rock, narrow sections with drop-offs that aren’t ideal for young kids, scattered dog poop, and very light traffic. Aim for drier days, go earlier if you want to hit all six bluffs, and in summer bring a towel so you can cool off in the creek after you’re done.
