Trail Description
Hatzic Lake Paddle in Mission, BC is a super mellow loop on the water, not a hiking grind. At 7.6 km with only 3 m of elevation gain, it’s more of a relaxed paddle than a workout, and most people cruise it in about half an hour if they keep a steady pace. It’s an easy way to get out on Hatzic Lake without dealing with crowds or complicated logistics.
You launch from the public water access and trace a loop that lets you check out Hatzic Island and the small river channel that feeds into the lake. The shoreline feels low-key and open, and on calm days the water is usually smooth enough for beginners on kayaks or paddle boards. Keep an eye on the sky too, as people regularly spot hawks circling and hunting over the lake.
Recent visitors mention a big grassy area by Hatzic Lake that works well for picnics and staging gear, plus a noticeable hill at the beginning if you’re walking down with boards or boats. The lake itself stays cold most of the year, so dress for immersion and don’t assume it’s warm just because the air temperature is. May through August is the most popular window for the Hatzic Lake Paddle in Mission, but shoulder seasons can be great too if you’re prepared for cooler water and quieter conditions.
