Trail Description

Nursia Peak is one of those Mission-area hikes that makes you earn every view. This 19.3 km out-and-back route from the Cascade Falls side dishes out about 1337 m of gain and usually takes around 8 hours, so it’s a full-day grind, not an evening stroll. If you like long, quiet slogs with big summit payoffs and don’t mind some rough sections, Nursia Peak in Mission, BC belongs on your list.

The day starts on a power line service road, climbing steadily for roughly 7.5 km and stacking up close to 1000 m of elevation before you even touch the ridge. From there, a short bushwhack leads you onto more interesting terrain with a mix of short, steep drops and climbs along the ridge. The summit tops out around 1338 m with wide-open 360° views of the surrounding Mission backcountry and nearby peaks, making the grind feel worth it on a clear day.

This is a difficult route with a very sustained climb, so bring solid fitness, plenty of water, and expect to be out all day. In winter and shoulder seasons, the ridge can be icy and firm; hikers often recommend crampons and an ice axe when snow lingers. The trail to Nursia Peak is hikeable most of the year, but conditions swing fast at higher elevations, so check recent reports, start early from the Cascade Falls parking lot, and be ready for a remote feel with very few other people around.
