Trail Description
Heritage Mountain via Westminster Abbey in Mission is more of a peaceful stroll than a serious hike, and that’s exactly its charm. At just 2.1 km with about 60 m of gain, it’s a very easy out-and-back route that usually takes around 35 minutes, making it an easy add-on to a visit to the abbey grounds.
The walk starts on the Westminster Abbey property, winding around the church and up through quiet forest toward a low ridge. On clear days you can get a nice view over the valley, but in fog or low cloud it turns into a moody, atmospheric walk instead. Along the way you’ll notice a surprising amount of holly, including a huge holly tree near the viewpoint that feels especially fitting around the holidays.
Recent hikers report the trail holding up reasonably well even in pouring rain, though it can cool off quickly and the fog can erase any views, so bring a layer and be ready for wet conditions. The path is short but can be a bit slick in winter weather, so decent footwear helps. Heritage Mountain via Westminster Abbey is open year-round, but remember the abbey grounds are private property, close around 6:30 p.m., and do not allow dogs or bikes; check the Westminster Abbey website for current visiting guidelines before you go.
