Trail Description

East Mission Heritage Greenway and Gondola in Mission, BC is a short, punchy outing that packs in more than you’d expect from 2.7 km. With about 114 m of gain and a max elevation around 177 m, it’s classed as easy, but you’ll still feel a bit of a climb in spots. Most people wrap it up in under an hour, making it a solid after-work or “squeeze it in between errands” kind of hike.

The trail weaves through a green corridor above town, with a mix of walking and bike-style paths that roll and dip as you go. Views are hit-or-miss depending on which spur you take, but there are a few clearings that open up with surprisingly good sightlines and a nice sense of being up and away from the neighbourhood. The real draw for many is hunting for the old plane crash remnants along the East Mission Heritage Greenway and Gondola, a bit of local history hidden in the trees.

Recent hikers say the crash site is tricky to find and not well marked, so don’t expect clear signage and be ready to explore a few side trails. The area can feel like a little maze, with both marked and unmarked options, some steeper bike lines, and some flatter choices if you’ve got kids or a dog in tow. Spring and early summer bring lush growth but also bugs, stinging nettles, and the odd sign of bears, so bring spray, keep dogs close, and stay alert; the trail runs year-round, but dry days make route-finding and exploring those side paths a lot more enjoyable.
