Trail Description

Access 12 - Valley View - Red Rider - Momentum Loop is a forested 9.5 km loop in the Mission Municipal Forest near Mission, BC, with gentle grades and about 338 m of gain up to roughly 511 m. It’s rated easy and usually takes just under 3 hours, but the mix of old logging roads and singletrack makes it feel a bit more adventurous than the stats suggest.

Once you’re on the loop, expect a steady wander through classic coastal forest with thick moss, ferns, and, lately, a surprising variety of mushrooms along the way. The Valley View and Red Rider sections weave in and out of denser trees and more open stretches, and you’ll share the area with mountain bikers, so stay alert on the wider corridors and corners.

Recent hikers on the Access 12 - Valley View - Red Rider - Momentum Loop report lush, green conditions and lots to see on the forest floor, but also mention that the route can feel confusing, especially in summer when vegetation is overgrown. Treat this as a choose-your-own-adventure network and bring a downloaded map to avoid wrong turns. There’s a shooting range nearby, so dogs or kids sensitive to loud noise may not love it, and the city sometimes closes Mission forest trails seasonally, so check the Mission forestry trail page for current closures before you go.
