Trail Description

Slollicum Peak Trail is a serious leg burner above Harrison Lake, not a casual stroll. This 13.4 km out-and-back near Harrison Hot Springs gains around 1200 m and tops out near 1550 m, with many hikers recording closer to 18–19 km depending on where they park on the logging roads. It’s rated very difficult for a reason: long, steep, and exposed in places, but the summit payoff over Harrison Lake and Slollicum Lake is huge on a clear day.

The approach on Harrison East FSR and spur roads is a mix of driving and walking, then you hit a grind of logging road, rocky sections, and steep forest. Expect some loose rock, short scrambly bits, and a narrow ridge as you close in on the summit, with 360-degree views over Harrison, Cheam, the Chilliwack range, and down the valley when the clouds cooperate. The contrast is sharp: logged slopes and road walking below, then wildflowers, berry bushes, and a surprisingly scenic ridge walk up high.

Recent hikers report that the first half on FSR is fast but a bit dull, and the real work starts once you leave the road and head straight up through the forest. Poles are strongly recommended for the steep grades and to knock back stinging nettle, and there are several creeks and streams to refill water, so bring a filter and electrolytes. Snow often lingers from about 1200 m up into early summer and can return by late September, so microspikes or even crampons can be handy; aim for a clear day, start early, expect 6–8 hours round trip, and avoid weekday access when logging traffic and gates can be an issue.
