Trail Description
Agassiz Green Grind in Agassiz is exactly what it sounds like: a short, sharp workout up a service road with very little fluff. The route is 3.7 km out and back with about 274 m of gain, usually taking around an hour and a half if you’re pacing yourself. It’s more about burning the legs than chasing a big summit moment, and that’s actually why a lot of locals keep coming back.
The trail climbs almost immediately and barely lets up, sitting around that 40-degree feel most of the way, so expect your quads and calves to light up. You’re on a BC Hydro service road the whole time, so it’s straightforward to follow and easy to navigate, with a few decent mountain views breaking through on the way up but nothing dramatic at the top. If you like a quiet grind without crowds, the Agassiz Green Grind delivers a solid hill session close to town.
Recent hikers call the trail clear, easy to follow, and not technically difficult, but very steep, with some side-stepping on the way down if your ankles or knees get tired. Expect mosquitoes in the warmer months and keep an eye out for bear sign and berries; people have reported fresh scat and bears feeding, so bring bear spray, make noise, and don’t push it if you’re uncomfortable. The trail itself is open to hikers on foot during daylight hours, but vehicle access to the area is closed by BC Hydro, so plan to walk in, respect all signage, and aim for February through October for the best conditions.
