Trail Description

The Lost Oakley in Abbotsford is a short hike that still makes you work a little. At 2.9 km out and back with about 157 m of elevation gain, it’s rated easy but has enough uphill to get your legs warmed up. It usually takes just over an hour, so it’s a solid choice for a quick after-work walk or a low-commitment weekend outing.

The trail starts off McKee Road, heading through Straiton Park and into classic Fraser Valley forest. The path is rooty and a bit uneven in spots, winding through second-growth trees with filtered views and a quiet, tucked-away feel despite being close to Abbotsford. You simply follow the trail until it meets Straiton Road, then turn around and retrace your steps back to the parking area.

Recent hikers mention that the elevation comes in short, punchy sections, so expect a few steeper bits even though the distance is small. Roots can be slick in wet weather or when there’s frost in the ground, so proper footwear is important, especially in fall and winter. The Lost Oakley is usually best from April through October, but it can be a nice cool-weather walk too if you don’t mind mud and bring layers; dogs are allowed and often off-leash, so be ready to share the trail with a few four-legged locals.
