Trail Description

Stoney Creek Trail in Abbotsford, BC is a super short, super easy out-and-back walk that feels more like a relaxed park stroll than a hike. At 1.8 km with only 23 m of gain, it usually takes under half an hour, making it an easy choice for families, casual walkers, and people just looking to stretch their legs in Bateman Park.

The path follows Stoney Creek through a mix of open park space and shaded sections beside the water, with wide gravel paths that are straightforward to follow. You get a close-up look at the creek, small bridges, and the surrounding ravine, and it’s a popular spot for locals to wander, chat, and let their dogs run around. It’s low effort, calming, and feels very “neighbourhood trail” rather than backcountry adventure.

Right now, Stoney Creek Trail has a key issue: a storm-damaged section means you can’t walk the full route, and a bridge is still out partway through, so expect a shorter out-and-back than the map shows. This area by Bateman Park is an off-leash dog zone with a dog pen, and there have been reports of off-leash dog conflicts, so anyone nervous around dogs should be cautious and maybe choose a quieter time of day. The trail is open year-round and stays accessible in most seasons, but check recent reports for bridge repairs and be ready to turn around earlier than planned until the damage is fixed.
