Trail Description

Saar Creek Trail in Abbotsford is one of those easy, no-stress walks you can do after work or with a coffee in hand. This 4.5 km out-and-back follows the top of a dike, is almost completely flat with only about 10 m of gain, and usually takes under an hour at a relaxed pace. It’s very easy, dog-friendly, and feels more like a country stroll than a hike, with just enough open space to clear your head.

The trail surface is a mix of gravel and road mulch, wide and flat, so you’re not dodging roots or rocks. You get long views over the surrounding Abbotsford farmland, with low mountains in the distance and Saar Creek running beside you. It’s a solid spot for birdwatching too, with herons, hawks, and the odd eagle if you keep your eyes up instead of glued to your feet.

Recent users say Saar Creek Trail is in good walking shape, but the main complaint is dog poop on the path, and there are no bag dispensers at either end since this dike isn’t a formal city park. If you’re bringing a dog, pack your own bags and do everyone a favour. The area can get surprisingly windy, so an extra layer is smart, and the trail is usually best from spring through fall, though the flat grade makes it walkable most of the year as long as you’re ready for some chill and possible mud after heavy rain.
