Trail Description

Mill Lake Loop in Abbotsford isn’t a wilderness escape, but it is the city’s go-to leg stretcher. This 2.3 km paved loop circles the lake right in the middle of town, flat as can be with only about 10 m of elevation, and usually takes under half an hour at a relaxed pace. It’s busy, social, and handy if you want an easy walk without leaving Abbotsford.

The loop around Mill Lake is mostly smooth pavement with a boardwalk section, benches, and lots of spots to pause and watch the water. You’ll share the path with strollers, seniors, joggers, and kids on bikes, and there’s a good chance of spotting ducks, geese, the odd heron, and even turtles if you’re paying attention. Sunsets over the lake can be surprisingly good, and in winter you sometimes get ice on the water and decorated trees adding a bit of charm.

Recent walkers report construction and detours on parts of the pathway, with temporary rubber tiles and some uneven sections that can be tricky for wheelchairs or strollers, plus a few spots where roots are cracking the pavement. The park is often crowded, parking can be tight, and in spring especially there’s a lot of goose and duck poop and some litter, so wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. Mill Lake Loop is open year-round and works for almost any fitness level, but if you’re bringing kids, dogs, or anyone with mobility issues, go slower, watch for dips in the path, and consider visiting early in the day for easier parking and a bit more space.
