Trail Description

McKee Peak via Westview is a quick, satisfying climb right out of the suburbs of Abbotsford, BC, and it packs more reward than you’d expect for a 3.1 km out-and-back. The trail climbs about 186 m to around 468 m, so it feels like a real hike without eating your whole day, and most people wrap it up in just over an hour. Locals hit this one often for sunset, that swing, and an easy escape from the neighborhood streets.

The route follows a mix of walking paths and well-used mountain bike trails, with a steady, gradual grade that never gets too punishing but will still get your legs working. Views come and go depending on the fog, but on a clear day you’ll get solid looks over Abbotsford and the valley, especially near the top and around the sunset swing. There are lots of intersecting bike lines, so keep an eye on your map and your ears for riders, especially on busier days.

Current reports for McKee Peak via Westview mention mud almost year-round, icy patches in colder weather, and heavy mosquitoes once things warm up, so waterproof shoes and strong bug spray are smart. The trail is usually straightforward, but a few people still end up on side tracks, so downloading the route before you go helps. This one works most of the year in Abbotsford, with foggy, slick conditions in winter and spring, clearer views and bugs in late spring through fall, and the best golden hour payoff on calm summer evenings.
