Trail Description
Mckay Creek and Trans Canada Trail in Abbotsford is one of those routes that’s exactly what it promises: a flat, easy cruise with lots of room to just zone out and walk. At 14.2 km out-and-back with only 48 m of elevation gain and a max altitude around 18 m, it’s more about distance than climbing. Expect a relaxed 2.5–3 hour outing if you walk the full stretch.
The trail follows a mix of creekside sections and green corridor, with a few “hidden gem” viewpoints and side spots if you keep your eyes open, especially near the pump house end. It’s popular with walkers, runners, and cyclists, so you’ll see a steady flow of people, but there are still quieter pockets that feel surprisingly calm for being so close to Abbotsford. The route is well marked and straightforward, great if you just want to move without thinking about navigation.
Recent hikers report muddy patches, especially after rain, so expect wet shoes in the shoulder seasons and on stormy days. Dogs are allowed off leash in sections, which makes Mckay Creek and Trans Canada Trail a solid choice for locals getting their pups some easy miles, but there are no bathrooms, so plan ahead. With multiple parking areas along the trail, you can shorten the distance if 14.2 km feels long; March through August tends to be the most pleasant window, but it’s walkable year-round if you’re okay with a bit of mud and sharing the path with bikes.
