Trail Description
Long Way Home Loop in Abbotsford, BC is a short hit of forest time that still feels like a real hike. At 2.7 km with about 113 m of gain, it’s officially rated easy, but most people would call it light-to-moderate thanks to a few punchy climbs. It’s a quick outing at around 50 minutes, but long enough to clear your head and get the legs working.
The loop winds through classic West Coast forest, with a mix of evergreens, undergrowth, and filtered light that keeps things cool and quiet. The grade rolls up and down, with some steeper sections that will have you breathing a bit harder, but nothing technical. Views are mostly forested, so this is more about the calm, the birds, and the feel of soft trail under your feet than big panoramas.
Recent hikers report Long Way Home Loop as “fairly challenging” mainly because of those steeper bits and some slightly overgrown stretches, so expect brushy sections and watch your footing on roots. Good shoes are a smart call, especially after rain when it can be slick. The trail sees less traffic than some Abbotsford favorites, which keeps it quiet but also means you should be a bit more self-reliant and carry water. May through October is the most reliable season, though locals walk it year-round if conditions are dry enough.
