Trail Description

Emma Peel and No Time Out Loop is a short, forested escape just outside Abbotsford on Sumas Mountain, clocking in around 3.7 km with 126 m of gain and a high point near 496 m. It’s rated easy and usually takes just over an hour, so it’s a solid choice for families, newer hikers, or anyone wanting a quick leg-stretcher without a big climb. The loop is shared with mountain bikers, but most hikers report it feeling quiet and relaxed, especially on this particular combo of trails.

The Emma Peel and No Time Out Loop starts with the main viewpoint near the parking area, then ducks into cool, shaded forest for most of the way. You’re not out here for grand vistas; this one is about soft dirt, tall trees, and a surprisingly rich mix of wildflowers and fungi along the trail. Kids tend to handle it well, and the shade makes it a nice option on hot Abbotsford summer days or even drizzly shoulder-season outings.

Current reports say the parking lot is small but free, with a clean outhouse and a surprisingly nice view right from the start, so go early as it fills fast. Expect lots of bugs in late spring and summer—people are still swatting even after multiple rounds of bug spray—so bring strong repellent and be ready to keep moving. The trail can be very muddy in spring, and near the end there’s some garbage and a damaged section that feels rough and a bit neglected, so watch your footing, keep an eye on kids and dogs, and treat this as a mellow forest wander more than a big payoff hike.
