Trail Description

Discovery Trail – Fishtrap Creek Park Trail in Abbotsford is an easy urban loop that strings together green spaces, creeks, and quiet neighbourhoods into one relaxed outing. At 12.4 km with just 117 m of elevation gain and a max altitude around 90 m, it’s more of a steady walk than a hike, usually taking about 2.5 hours at a casual pace.

The route mixes flat paved sections with some boardwalks and short stretches of packed gravel, winding around Fishtrap Creek and through parkland and residential areas. You’ll pass ponds, open fields, and treed corridors where you can spot ducks, herons, and plenty of local birdlife, with frequent benches and access points if you want to shorten the loop.

Recent hikers say Discovery Trail – Fishtrap Creek Park Trail is a solid choice for a rainy day thanks to the pavement, but the boardwalks do get slick when wet, so good tread helps. There are two large enclosed off-leash dog areas along the route, with fresh water available in the middle one, making this a very dog-friendly outing. The trail is open year-round and stays low and accessible, though expect puddles and mud off the paved sections in fall and winter, and more bike and stroller traffic on sunny weekends.
