Trail Description

Cassiar Park Discovery Trail in Abbotsford, BC is the kind of route you hit when you want easy distance without driving out to the mountains. This 5.3 km out-and-back path is almost entirely paved, gains only about 113 m, and usually takes around 1 hour 20 minutes at a relaxed walking pace. It’s rated very easy, so it’s a low-stress option for everyday exercise, dog walks, or easing back into hiking.

The trail winds through green belts and neighbourhood edges, with long, gentle stretches that are ideal for walking, running, or pushing a stroller. You’ll pass a small duck pond area and head toward the tunnel near the end, which is often covered in graffiti and gives the Cassiar Park Discovery Trail a bit of urban character. Past that, the route links toward the McKee area, tying into a larger network if you want to extend your outing.

Recent reports say the section near Whatcom Road and under the power lines has become badly overgrown with blackberry vines, so expect some thorny branches at ankle and leg height and consider long pants. Most of the route is asphalt, which makes it easy in wet weather but harder on knees, so good shoes help. Locals use this Abbotsford trail year-round, with the most popular window running from late winter through early fall when daylight is longer and the path feels more inviting.
