Trail Description

Triangle Lake Loop in Halfmoon Bay, BC, is one of those short Sunshine Coast hikes that feels like a proper forest escape without eating your whole day. At 3.7 km with around 112 m of gain, it’s an easy loop that most people finish in about an hour, making it a solid choice for a quick afternoon walk or a low-key warmup before bigger adventures.

The Triangle Lake Loop starts just off the Sunshine Coast Highway, near Trout Lake, and dives quickly into classic coastal rainforest. The trail is narrow and meandering, winding through mossy trees, roots, and soft forest floor, with plenty of shade the whole way. Triangle Lake itself is small and not the main attraction; the real draw is the quiet, tree-covered singletrack and the feeling of being tucked into the woods with very few other people around.

Recent hikers say the route is well-marked and well-maintained, with gentle ups and downs that are very manageable for most abilities. Because it’s so tree covered, Triangle Lake Loop in Halfmoon Bay stays cool on hot days and actually works well for light rain, though it can get slick, so decent footwear helps. The loop is open year-round, dogs are allowed on leash, and with benches along the way and no major viewpoints to “chase,” it’s a relaxed, go-at-your-own-pace kind of trail best enjoyed by slowing down and taking in the forest.
