Trail Description

Suncoaster Bike Trail near Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast is a long, rugged grind, not a casual cruise. Stretching about 37.5 km with roughly 904 m of elevation gain, this point-to-point route is rated very difficult for good reason and usually takes close to ten hours to finish on foot. It’s used by hikers and mountain bikers who want a remote, physical day (or overnighter) rather than big viewpoints or tourist-style scenery.

The Suncoaster Bike Trail rolls through classic Sunshine Coast forest, with a mix of old logging roads, double track, and rougher sections under power lines. Expect long, steady climbs, punchy ups and downs, and stretches that feel more like a utility corridor than a polished singletrack ride. Views are mostly filtered through trees, with the occasional opening over cutblocks and clearings instead of dramatic alpine vistas.

Recent riders on the southern section near Halfmoon Bay report steep power line climbs, double track, and clear-cuts that aren’t especially fun or scenic, so go in with realistic expectations. This is a route for people who enjoy covering distance, dealing with rough surfaces, and being self-sufficient; water, shade, and bailout options can be limited, and bikes will see some hike-a-bike. Spring and fall on the Suncoaster Bike Trail are usually more comfortable than hot, dusty midsummer, and if you’re doing only a segment, consider scouting maps and choosing a section that matches your tolerance for climbing and clear-cut terrain.
