Trail Description

Missing Link and Riley Falls Loop in Halfmoon Bay is a short, easy wander in the woods that feels a bit wilder than its stats suggest. At 4.2 km with only about 97 m of gain, it’s a quick one-hour loop that still gives you that “I actually went for a hike” feeling without being a grind.

The loop mixes classic Sunshine Coast forest with small patches of marsh, rockier bits, and gentle ups and downs as you work toward the high point around 209 m. Expect dense salal, big ferns, and plenty of shade, with the occasional reminder you’re not far from the highway thanks to road noise in a few sections. Despite the name, many hikers never actually see Riley Falls, which seems to be seasonal or just a low-flow trickle for much of the year.

Recent reports say the Missing Link and Riley Falls Loop is generally in good shape, but you should be ready to step over or around a few downed trees and mucky patches, especially after rain. In summer it can be dry underfoot with lots of spider webs across the trail, and in wet months the mud ramps up but the trail is still very walkable. It’s an easy loop for casual hikers and families, but waterproof shoes and a bit of patience with windfall and puddles will make it a lot more enjoyable.
