Trail Description
Homesite Creek Forest Service Road in Halfmoon Bay is a short, easy wander that links rough forest road with the much nicer Homesite Creek and falls area. At just 2.9 km out and back with about 85 m of gain, it’s more of a relaxed stretch-your-legs outing than a big hike, and usually takes under an hour.
The first part follows a basic forest service road and, according to recent hikers, walking along the highway section to reach it isn’t the most enjoyable part. Once you connect with the Homesite Creek trails and drop toward the creek and falls, it feels more like a classic Sunshine Coast walk, with mossy forest, clear flowing water, and a quieter vibe than the busier coastal viewpoints.
Current reports mention some fallen trees and a confusing start, so download a map, watch for side paths, and expect a bit of minor scrambling around blowdown before the trail improves. The campground trails near Homesite Creek are better maintained, and that’s where the walking gets smoother and more scenic. The falls can be low later in summer and early fall, so if you want more water, aim for spring or after a good rain, and bring decent shoes for roots, mud, and slick rock near the creek.
