Trail Description

Homesite Creek East Loop in Halfmoon Bay is a quick little forest escape that gives you a waterfall fix without much effort. At just 1.8 km with about 49 m of gain, it’s an easy loop that most people finish in under half an hour, making it a solid leg-stretcher on a Sunshine Coast road trip along Highway 101.

The trail winds through classic coastal forest, with mossy trees, roots, and a few muddy patches after rain. Follow the far-left trail from the main area to reach the small waterfall and creek, where there are a few benches to sit, listen to the water, and let kids or dogs explore. The loop is gentle, never really steep, and the low max elevation around 109 m keeps it friendly for almost any fitness level.

Recent hikers say the Homesite Creek East Loop is generally in good shape, though it can be slick and muddy in spots, especially outside summer. Access can be confusing: the falls are on the south side of Highway 101, and many locals recommend using Google Maps for McNeil Lake and following the old logging road toward the water treatment plant for reliable parking and connections to side trails like the “fairy trail,” Copperhead, and Lucy’s Loop. This area is great for families and short outings, with the creek looking especially inviting for a splash on hot summer days; just expect cooler, wetter conditions and more mud in spring and fall, and keep dogs leashed as posted.
