Trail Description
Frog Pond and Lohn Road Trail in Halfmoon Bay is a super mellow walk when you just want to stretch your legs without committing to a big hike. At 2.3 km out and back with only about 26 m of elevation gain, it’s more of a relaxed stroll than a workout, usually done in under half an hour. It’s a handy little trail if you’re staying along the Sunshine Coast and want something quick, quiet, and easy to access.
The route follows old road and forest path, winding gently through second-growth coastal forest with that classic Halfmoon Bay mix of cedars, firs, and salal. Views are mostly about the woods themselves rather than big ocean vistas, but the calm, sheltered feel makes it a good reset walk, and the frog pond adds a bit of interest for kids and nature lovers. You’re unlikely to hit crowds here, so it has a low-key, local vibe.
Recent reports mention soft snow on the Frog Pond and Lohn Road Trail, but traction has been good, so basic hiking shoes with a decent sole are usually enough in winter conditions. Expect a bit of mud in shoulder seasons and wetter weeks, especially around low spots near the pond. Dogs are allowed on leash, and this one works year-round, with winter bringing snow patches, spring and fall feeling damp but quiet, and summer offering a cool, shaded escape from the heat.
